 Centre for Environmental Information has been opened on 14 June, 2001, in
the building of the Russian Geographical Society. The purpose of the Centre is
informing inhabitants of St.Petersburg and the Leningrad region on environmental
issues and involving them in nature protection activity. The Centre organisers are
environmental NGO's Green World, Children of the Baltic and Transboundary Environmental
Information Agency, with support of the Gagarin Fund.
The Centre for Environmental Information has a library of environmental
materials and a collection of environmental videos. Free access to Internet-resources
about environment is also provided for the Centre clients.
The CEI will organise meetings with specialists and consultations on actual
environmental problems in St.Petersburg, North-West Russia and the Baltic Sea region.
Publishing and free distribution of popular materials on these issues is planned.
The CEI will render methodical help to teachers and students on educational
programs related to energy production and energy saving, Local Agenda 21and
sustainable development, river and bank watch and protection. The Centre will
organise educational events for students and teachers, including seminars, action games
and Internet-trainings.
The Centre for Environmental Information is open for visitors on Tuesdays,
Wednesdays and Thursdays from 11 a.m. till 7 p.m. The Center's address:
