The CoNet CZA 21 Conference (Coastal Network – Coastal Zone Agenda 21) took place in Roja, Latvia, on 27 to 30 June 2002.
The aim of this kick-off conference was to bring together multiplicators and stakeholders to foster sustainable coastal zone development in the Baltic Sea Region based on local and regional commitment and action.
CoNet CZA 21 aims at sustainable coastal zone development in the entire Baltic Sea Region. To promote it, CoNet CZA 21 therefore wants to cooperate with local and regional groups,
stakeholders and initiatives in coastal regions of the Baltic Sea Region, that were initiated since
the Agenda 21 was set up in 1992. Another essential component of CoNet CZA 21 is
transnational cooperation. The project is carried out in close cooperation with the Baltic Local
Agenda 21 Forum (BLA21F).
One of the most important results of the conference was the start of the CoNet CZA21 networking process. The organised network will supplement, but not duplicate the existing
networks, for example, BLA21F and Coalition Clean Baltic.
The Center for Environmental Information in St.Petersburg (www.ecocenter.spb.org) will serve as the regional CoNet CZA21 focal point for St.Petersburg and Leningrad region.
